Wartime Government Controls
There were many different types of control used during World War II, including the major ones:
- Conscription control - Sending people to war, and forcing them to be a part of the war effort.
- Manpower control - Choosing where people could work and sending them to certain type of work force.
- Rationing control - Saying people could only by a certain amount of flour or sugar, etc, to preserve what was available.
- Censorship control - choosing what can be published in newspapers, and sent to people through mail.
Below i will explain each of the following controls, outlining the arguments for and against such controls during wartime.
Conscription Control:
Conscription control was when the Government could decide who got sent to the war, and forcing them to be involved in the war, not just in their country but forcing them to go and fight overseas, as part of the war.
Manpower Control:
Manpower control was where the Government could choose what work force certain people could be a part of, and sending them to work in a particular field or place.
Rationing Control:
Rationing control was when the Goverment put restrictions on a particular quantity of a product you could buy in a period of time, in order to preserve the little we had of certain things during the War.
Censorship Control:
Censorship control is when the Government put restriction and chose what could be published and let out for others to hear and be aware of, and they also went through the soldiers mail to ensure that certain information was not let out to other friends or family members, including anything that could give away details of there current whereabouts.
